Monopril is an ACE inhibitor which is used to treat hypertension and heart failure by relaxing blood vessels.
Monopril belongs to the class of medications called ACE inhibitors. It works by relaxing blood vessels so that blood can flow more easily. Monopril is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. It is also used to treat heart failure. This medication may also be used to help protect the kidneys from harm due to diabetes.
Take Monopril exactly as prescribed by your doctor. The recommended adult dose ranges from 10 mg to 40 mg daily in a single daily dose, with or without meals. The recommended starting dosage for most people with high blood pressure (hypertension) is 10 mg once daily. The recommended starting dosage for most people with congestive heart failure is 10 mg once a day. For congestive heart failure, the maximum recommended dose is 40 mg daily.

You should not take Monopril if you are allergic to fosinopril or to any of the ingredients of the medication, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have angioedema after taking any ACE inhibitors. It should not be used by a child younger than 6 years of age.
